James S. Powell

Jim Powell is a U.S. Army colonel and strategic planner whose past assignments include tours in Iraq and Afghanistan, along with positions in the Pentagon as speechwriter and military advisor. He has served on faculty at the U.S. Army War College and has taught at the School of Advanced Military Studies in Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, as well as the United States Military Academy at West Point. Colonel Powell holds a Ph.D. in history from Texas A&M University and has published works on World War II’s Pacific theater, the 1973 Arab-Israeli War, and the Iraq War. Soon to retire from active duty, he has accepted a teaching position at the Air Command and Staff College.
